Title: Brain Attacks
News Story: Good Day Brothers and Sisters; When our mother was battling cancer in the latter stage, she was in excuriating pain, to the point that she was doing a long low painful laced-moan. I asked her what was the pain like and she said to me, "Do you remember the pain that you had when you had Chartie?" and I said, 'Yes". She then said, "Multiply that pain by a million". We convinced her to take pain medicine. She did not respond well to it. When all the pain medicine was out of her body, she said to us, "Do not give me anythings else for pain, because I do not have control of my mind, as long as I have control of my mind, I can deal with the pain"! She did not have enough time for the doctors to find a pain medicine that would not negatively affect her mind. She could control her mind by simply not taking the medicine for pain. People who have mental illness are not afforded that option! Can you imagine a brain attack, whether it be intentional or unintentional? Our brothers and sisters who live with mental illness, brains are under such attacks all the time until after much trial and error, and, medicines are found that help to alleviate those attacks. Now you have success with the proper medicines, but, because of the stigma attached to mental illness, you do not have a place where you are wanted, warmly welcomed each day, encouraged to dream and do all you can to fulfill those dreams, and validated as a productive citizen and person. But wait, you do! Club Nova provides such a community for persons living with presistent and severe mental illness. Club Nova's annual Tea Room and Art Show will be held October 4-9, 2010 in celebration of the National Alliance on Mental Illness' (NAMI) Mental Illness Awareness Week. Members of the public are invited to join our clubhouse staff and members each day from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. to enjoy light lunch and live music performed by local artists including Jim Smith and Tim Stambough. Artwork by members of the clubhouse will also be on display. Through its annual Tea Room event launched in 2009, Club Nova hopes to raise awareness about Club Nova, its mission and its place in the community. The annual event serves to increase Club Nova's presence in the community by opening its doors to allow community members to see work that Club Nova staff and members accomplish every day in order to keep the Clubhouse running smoothly. It also provide a venue for memers to display their remarkable assortment of skills and talents, such as members' artworks which hang on the clubhouse walls each day. The event will be held at the Club Nova Clubhouse located at 102 D West Main Street. Tickets will be sold for $5 at the door. Please join Club Nova for a well-deserved celebration of Club Nova and its members in conjuction with NAMI's Mental Illness Awareness Week. Tea Room at a Glance October 4th through October 9th 12:00-2:00 p.m. each day Tours, Art Display, Lunch, Live Music Tickets available for $5 at the door You will be welcomed with arms wide open. It is one of my favorite communities! Thank you. With much love, Esphur
